Pop stars rarely achieve dominance on the major streaming charts, which tend to skew in favor of hip-hop.
Ariana Grande is no ordinary pop star, however. The twelve songs from her “thank u, next” album were the twelve most streamed songs on US Spotify Friday. She additionally had the Top 6 songs on US Apple Music, with nothing falling below #13.
Grande’s dominance also extended globally on both services.
“7 rings” led the way on US Spotify Friday, netting 3.85 million streams. “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” followed at #2 with 3.50 million, ahead of “needy” (#3, 3.00 million) and “NASA” (#4, 2.95 million).
“bloodline” earned #5 with 2.66 million.
The balance of the album ranked as follows: “fake smile” at #7, “ghostin” at #8, “thank u, next” at #9, “in my head” at #10, “imagine” at #11 and “make up” at #12.
Every song from “thank u, next” meanwhile appears in the Top 15 of the Global Spotify chart. Tracks from the album occupy the Top 9 spots, but Billie Eilish’s “bury a friend” (#10), Post Malone’s “Wow.” (#11) and Post Malone & Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” (#13) interrupt its dominance.
— As for Apple Music, the album held the Top 6 positions on Friday’s US chart: “7 rings” at #1, “needy” at #2, “break up” at #3, “NASA” at #4, “bloodline” at #5 and “ghostin” at #6.
J. Cole’s “MIDDLE CHILD” interrupted at #7, but Grande’s album then occupied the next six slots with “fake smile” (#8), “thank u, next” (#9), “imagine” (#10), “bad idea” (#11), “in my head” (#12) and “make up” (#13).
On the global chart, “thank u, next” had the Top 10 tracks. “MIDDLE CHILD” interrupted at #11, with the remaining tracks claiming #12 and #13.
